Khoo Ee Hoon has been a resident of Serangoon North since 1991. The curiosity of her then new residence in the 1990s her to discover interesting nuggets of the area’s past In this tour she will share her deep local knowledge, with a special focus on the Japanese Cemetery Park which holds the remains of many notable and colourful personalities in Singapore history.
Ee Hoon is a theatre professional by training and a researcher by accident. She has worked on many theatre productions as a stage manager and technical director, where her dramatic endeavours nurtured an inquisitiveness to always explore, learn and create. She currently researches on the deathscapes of Singapore, specialising in Bukit Brown Cemetery and the Japanese Cemetery Park.

As a former resident of Hwi Yoh from 1963-1981, artist Koh Nguang How will share his memories of growing up in the village with two trades (pottery and rope making) that it was famous for and both associated with his maternal grandfather. The tour will focus on landmarks along the former main road of Jalan Hwi Yoh, renamed Serangoon North Ave 1, including the original locations of Hwi Yoh Community Centre and Sam Mui Kuang Pottery.
Nguang How was born in Singapore, 1963. His artistic practice encompasses photography, collage, installation, performance, documentation, archiving and curating. He started to exhibit art archives in 1992, and initiated the “Singapore Art Archive Project” (SAAP) in 2005. He has since presented over 15 thematic works and exhibitions under the SAAP in Singapore and internationally.

Take a walk with Nabilah Said, the writer of Lost & Found: Serangoon, as she takes you behind the scenes on the inspirations and creative journey of making the work. The tour is accompanied by the project’s heritage consultant and local resident Khoo Ee Hoon.
Nabilah is an award-winning playwright and poet whose works tend to deal with history, memory and shifting communities. She is interested in working in experimental and care-centred ways. She loves walking and enjoys geocaching.

Kumar is arguably Singapore’s most iconic comedian, host and drag queen. You have probably seen his wickedly funny stand-up act on stage, television or YouTube. But do you know that he loves dogs and lives close to the pet shops haven of Serangoon North?
In this one-off tour for Lost & Found: Serangoon, join Kumar as a local resident where he will take audiences to his favourite haunts and makan places in the neighbourhood. Hear him share about the brand new Subway outlet (that has replaced Japan Home), his beloved pets and ties with the neighbours. He asks, “Where is the kampong spirit in Singapore today? And how should we all lead our lives and as a community after covid?”.

Take a walk with Ammar “Ameezy”, the filmmaker in Lost & Found: Serangoon – and whose aunt and uncle live in Serangoon North – as he takes you behind the scenes on the inspirations and creative journey of making the work. This tour is designed for both hearing and non-hearing audiences where provisions for accessibility will be made.
Ammar is a visual creator in the moving image and street dance. He grew up in the worlds of the deaf and hearing, and believes in pushing and transcending boundaries.

What sounds can one hear in the former village of Jalan Hwi Yoh? Can we imagine the call of the burung ranggong? What instruments were used in the music compositions?
